Director's Note
A crowded foyer, the very center of the festival. The noise, excitement, heavy air slowly rises above the voices of Poles, French, Germans, Ukrainians and a whole host of filmmakers from all over the world. Everyone is talking about the film. Some liked it, others not so much.
Amid the raised voices, broken English, the faint sound of a telephone can be heard. A girl picks up the receiver. Everything falls silent.
The short etude “Dark Water” is a story about loneliness in the face of tragic news that can fall on any of us at the least expected moment.
The project was completed in one day at the Camerimage 2023 festival and was awarded the main prize by Arri Rental.
